Stage 1 remapping
Stage 1 Remapping
Professional mobile Stage 1 ECU remapping for cars and vans across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and the North West. We check the vehicle before we tune it, and we calibrate for how it is actually used rather than for a headline power figure.
Health checked first.
Remapped properly.
What is a Stage 1 remap?
Stage 1 normally means revising the software inside the vehicle’s engine control unit while keeping its standard hardware configuration. Nothing is added or replaced mechanically — the intake, exhaust and turbocharger stay exactly as the manufacturer supplied them.
Depending on the vehicle, a Stage 1 calibration may optimise areas such as torque delivery, throttle response, drivability, overtaking flexibility and the usable performance the engine already has.
Results are not the same on every vehicle. What is genuinely available depends on the specific engine, the ECU and software version fitted, the condition of the vehicle and how conservatively the manufacturer calibrated it in the first place. That is why we look at your registration before discussing anything specific.
Stage 1 car remapping
Most Stage 1 car work we do is on ordinary vehicles — commuters, family cars, motorway cars. Customers rarely ask for a number; they describe stronger mid-range response, smoother power delivery, easier overtaking and a car that makes better use of the performance it already has.
Those are the characteristics a well-judged software calibration can influence on a suitable car. We do not promise specific BHP, torque or MPG figures without data for your exact vehicle.

Stage 1 van remapping
Vans are judged differently. The priority is usable torque when the vehicle is loaded — pulling away, motorway driving, hills, overtaking and towing where the vehicle is genuinely suited to it. Drivability matters more than peak figures on a working vehicle.
We calibrate with load, mileage and duty cycle in mind, and we are careful not to ask more of a clutch, gearbox or cooling system than its condition supports.
More on commercial vehicles: van remapping.
Health checked before we tune
Every vehicle is assessed before any Stage 1 calibration begins. Suitability considers factors including diagnostic fault codes, overall vehicle condition, service history, how the engine is behaving, any existing warning lights, obvious mechanical problems, and whether that particular vehicle, engine and software is a sensible candidate at all.
The principle is simple: if a vehicle is not suitable for remapping, we do not remap it. Vehicle condition first, remapping second.

What a Stage 1 remap does not fix
ECU software is not a repair. A remap cannot resolve an underlying mechanical or electronic fault, and it should never be used to disguise one. Issues we would expect to see addressed first include:
- Boost leaks and turbocharger faults.
- Injector and fuel-system problems.
- DPF and EGR faults.
- Clutch and gearbox problems.
- Cooling-system faults.
- Sensor faults and existing engine-management issues.
Mobile Stage 1 remapping across the North West
We work as a mobile service across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and the surrounding North West. Where the location is suitable, the work is carried out at your home or workplace — a level, safe, accessible space with the vehicle able to stand undisturbed for the appointment.
There is no public workshop to visit and no rolling-road claims. If a location is not workable, we say so at enquiry rather than turning up and improvising. Coverage by area: areas we cover.
Performance without guesswork
Our approach is diagnostic-led. The calibration is selected for the individual vehicle and its suitability — not pulled from a generic file and applied regardless. We do not publish guaranteed power, torque or economy figures, because nobody can know them before looking at the vehicle.

The Remap Co. is built on hands-on automotive experience across vehicle diagnostics, electronic systems and specialist mobile vehicle work. That experience is what shapes how we judge a vehicle before we calibrate it — and why we will say no to a vehicle that isn’t in a fit state for it.
