Why torque delivery matters when loaded
Pulling weight is largely about the torque available at the engine speeds you actually use on a gradient or joining a motorway. A vehicle that feels fine unloaded can feel busy and downshift-prone with a caravan or trailer behind it.
Where a calibration improves delivery in that band, towing gets calmer rather than faster: fewer gear changes, less labouring, steadier progress on long climbs.
What does not change
A remap does not alter the manufacturer’s legal towing limits or permitted vehicle weights. Gross vehicle weight, gross train weight, maximum towing mass and noseweight stay exactly as specified. Nor does it change licence entitlement.
Checks that matter on a tow vehicle
Sustained load stresses cooling systems, transmissions, clutches and turbochargers. On tow vehicles those are our priority areas during the health check.
If a tow vehicle already shows signs of cooling or transmission strain, that is dealt with before any calibration discussion continues.
